purposely delayed so as to compel the elder brother to assign to the financier a larger portion of his interest than what had been agreed upon while on the other hand the financier negotiated with Ho Ngok Lau for a settlement of the suit. Eventually Ho Ngok Lau's elder brother had to sell his property in the country to obtain money for buying his release before he could take the case back and go to another lawyer. As regards the widow similar treatment was meted out to her and since then Lam Tan Chiu has joined in the enterprise.

(4). Captain Lau's case. As a revolutionist he made some money in Canton and deposited a portion of it with the Bank of Canton here. When he was arrested and shot the touts got to know of it and conspired with Lo Tez Sau to attach the money. A man was put up to represent Captain Lau on whom a writ was served in the name of a bogus creditor. When the case came on for hearing no defendant appeared and judgment was given ex parte which enabled the conspirators to get hold of the deposit and divide it amongst themselves. The fraud was not discovered until the deceased's widow came to Hongkong to demand refund of the deposit by the Bank of

Canton.

(5). Teang Yuet Kai's Property. A man was put up to

represent Tsang Yuet Kai in Canton while he was living and carry- -ing on business in Hongkong. A lawyer and his clerk went up to Canton with Tsang Yuet Kai's fourth son to draw up a document for the bogus Teang to sign assigning all his houses in Hongkong to his fourth son. Tsang Yuet Kai would have lost every house had it not so happened that a friend of his was approached for a big loan against his houses. In comsequence thereof, Tsang Tuet Kui Was reduced to heavy legal expenditure to get ude property re- -leaveu anu che faise qöcument crmovie. The lawyer and the

clerk who were mixed up in this case were respectively Harding and Wong Pek Chuen who is now the Chairman of the Tung Wa Hospital

for the current year.
